Although this year’s Mardi Gras parade looked a little different, it was still a day for the LGBTQ+ community and allies to come together to celebrate inclusion and equality with music, glitter, pride, love – and of course dancing!
For the third year in a row, Salesforce had the pleasure of living its core value of equality by serving as a major partner of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
The 2021 parade was certainly one to remember: 38 Salesforce team members shimmied, vogued and marched their way around the Sydney Cricket Ground in front of an audience of more than 40,000.
“The passion, the energy – it’s incredible,” said one Salesforce team member who was part of the festivities.
But beyond having a good time, the day was an opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community to come together to promote equality and inclusion for all.
“Events like this are important for us to show up as our most authentic selves, because there are people looking at this event for hope and inspiration. It’s a chance to be able to push equality forward this year and in years ahead,” said another Salesforce team member who marched in the parade.
The value of being your most authentic self was echoed by Cherie Mulyono, a Partner at PwC who spoke on a Salesforce pre-Mardi Gras panel about intersectionality. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she said it’s impossible to underestimate the value of being able to be your true self in every situation – including the workplace.
“Share your authentic stories – that’s where we can all learn from each other, and hopefully lead to a more inclusive workforce and community as well,” Mulyono said.
We loved the chance to once again stand alongside the LGBTQ+ community. To keep the spirit of the day going, we’re inviting you to learn the Salesforce Mardi Gras parade dance and march with us in spirit! Follow along with our dance maestro, Astro, below
