Business can be a platform for change

The 4th Industrial Revolution brings vast opportunity, but also the threat of greater inequality.

For global companies in this new era, developing great products and delivering profits are no longer enough. The world needs principled leaders who lead with values to serve all stakeholders—customers, employees, partners, communities and the environment.

Salesforce was started with a vision for a different kind of company—to change the way the world does business and at the same time, improve the state of the world. We believe that what we do is not as important as how we do it. In the Responsible Leadership stream, hear from luminaries from across the globe — from CEOs to NGOs, to sports legends and tech leaders — we’re here to discuss how we can make positive change for future generations.

Together, we can advocate for a better future

It’s only together that we can create a better model that benefits all stakeholders - including our shareholders, communities, future generations, and the planet.

Businesses need to play a vital role in improving our society and being truly committed to creating a more equal and sustainable future.

Together, we must skill-up the workforce, by retraining current employees and ensuring younger generations are prepared for the future.

Together, we must close the equality gap by ensuring equal work for equal pay and equal opportunity. Through our annual review, we’ve spent over $10M in the last 3 years to ensure equal pay for equal work by gender and race, at Salesforce. Learn more >

We are committed to ensuring everyone has equal opportunities and rights in our company globally. We do this through public advocacy such as standing against anti-LGBTQ legislation, working to build a company that reflects society, and standing as allies. Learn more >

And together, we must drive climate action that protects our planet for future generations.

Businesses can be a platform for change

Today, people choose companies that do more than just turn a profit. When it comes to where we work and where we shop, most people align with companies that actively engage in improving people’s lives. Business leaders are recognising that their companies’ long-term financial success is intrinsically linked to providing value for all stakeholders.

And, technology can be a tool that helps businesses drive change, if used responsibly. Almost three out of four people believe that the role of technology is on the right track.

  • 75% of people believe companies are responsible for giving back to the communities where they do business
  • 59% of people are confident that businesses will work with others to improve the state of capitalism

We need a better model that addresses the needs of shareholders — companies and their investors — but also the needs of other stakeholders — customers, employees, partners, communities, future generations, and the planet at large. By focusing on stakeholders and broader communities, we will create a better world for everyone together.

In this better model of capitalism, businesses play a vital role in improving our society and are truly committed to creating a more equal and sustainable future.

Giving back

We believe technology, when used for good, can change the world. To build a better world, we need the best technology. Over 20 years ago, the 1-1-1 Model of Integrated Philanthropy laid the foundation for Salesforce.org to grow into the social enterprise that we are today, allowing our communities to unlock even more impact.

Salesforce.org works to get technology in the hands of nonprofits and education institutions so they can connect with others and accelerate their impact. As a social enterprise, the more causes our technology supports, the more we are able to invest back into innovation and communities, creating an endless circle of good.

To date, we have over 45,000 non-profits using our technology, we've given over USD $310 million in grants and we've volunteered over 4.5 million hours in the communities in which we live and work.

We are committed to living and breathing these values in everything we do - including our events - and as such we have put a clear focus on learning, giving back and equality throughout Sydney World Tour. We encourage you to join these sessions and learn how your business can embrace the power of learning, the importance of giving back and the Age of Equality.

Join our Salesfore.Org area in the campground to learn more about how you can get involved with not-for-profits across Australia and New Zealand.
