FAQs

Lead generation primes customers for sales. Lead gen focuses on attracting and nurturing potential customers towards a sale. A sale is taking the interest of those potential customers and guiding them towards closing the deal.

Lead generation is the process, either through short campaigns or constant always-on activity, of attracting new potential customers to your organisation. If you’re a service provider, this typically involves igniting their interest in your services.

Service-based businesses should adopt any lead generation strategy that makes sense for their business. However, they also have the opportunity to offer something of value to gain trust, such as free consultations or hosting virtual (or in-person) events.

If you’re on a small business budget (and working with a smaller team), you need to be innovative in looking for cost-effective lead generation solutions. Here are a few strategies that might be helpful:

  • Get your clients to do the legwork for you: Offer a referral bonus (or discount) to clients who recommend you to their colleagues, family, or friends.
  • Add value: Where you can, give everything a personal touch – handwritten notes, gifts, valued extras, etc. This will help retain the customers you have and generate positive word-of-mouth and reviews, both of which are essential for generating leads.
  • Determine contacts early: Brainstorm a list of friends, relatives, acquaintances, neighbours, and kids’ contacts you might be able to reach out to.

Social media marketing can be valuable for generating leads. Look for platforms that offer a mix of analytics (to track performance), reach, and engagement tools. LinkedIn, for example, is a professional environment that helps you network with industry leaders and decision-makers. With YouTube, you can showcase your expertise through engaging, informative videos. Facebook’s targeted ads can help you reach a particular demographic, while Instagram helps you cultivate a more personal experience with your customers.
