Empowering AI Agents: MuleSoft’s Full Lifecycle AsyncAPI Support Now Available

MuleSoft today announced the general availability of full lifecycle AsyncAPI support, enabling organizations to power AI agents with real-time data through seamless integration with event-driven architectures (EDAs).

The recent release of Agentforce enables companies to build and deploy AI agents that can autonomously take action across any business function. Using AsyncAPI, customers can enhance the effectiveness of their AI agents by allowing them to take action based on real-time data and events.

Organizations generally use AsyncAPI to connect real-time data from their EDAs to their user-facing applications. By adding AsyncAPI support to ‌MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform, organizations can extend these capabilities to their AI agents. Fueled by real-time data, AI agents can create more meaningful customer experiences, such as streamlined support, proactive incident resolution, and enhanced inventory management.

Why it matters: Businesses rely on EDAs to deliver real-time data to their customers and users. Yet, recent research reveals 43% of IT leaders struggle to integrate existing systems with their EDAs, making it difficult to realize the full benefits. AsyncAPI helps address this by providing a scalable method of integrating applications and AI agents to EDAs.

Go deeper: With the growing number of systems and applications required to deliver seamless customer experiences, a flexible foundation for quick adaptation is essential. MuleSoft offers comprehensive integration on a single platform, enabling organizations to build APIs for different use cases, patterns, and protocols — including AsyncAPI, REST, and GraphQL.

Event-driven architectures (EDAs) have become crucial for modern enterprises, allowing organizations to process and respond to high-frequency data in real time‌ — ‌a key need as they advance AI agents.

How it works: AsyncAPI is an open-source initiative that establishes a standardized communication method between applications in EDAs, making them easier for businesses to build and maintain. This latest release improves the design, governance, cataloging, and implementation experiences in the Mulesoft Anypoint Platform to support AsyncAPI 2.6.

With this added support, organizations can move away from the traditional point-to-point integration method when getting data in and out of their EDA. Instead, they can capture all the information about an EDA in an AsyncAPI specification, establishing a single source of truth for event-driven communication that can be reused across multiple teams and projects, saving time, and creating a scalable approach to seamless data integration.

New features include:

  • Creation of real-time AI agents: Expose AsyncAPIs to AI agents, providing easy access to real-time data streams. Agents can take action based on ‌incoming information, enabling immediate responses to events when they occur.
  • Reusable standards for EDAs: Define a standard approach to integrate with EDAs using the AsyncAPI specification in MuleSoft’s core development environment, Anypoint Code Builder. Easily share AsyncAPI specifications across teams through Anypoint Exchange, promoting reuse and accelerating project delivery.
  • Streamlined developer experience: Simplify the traditionally complex implementation process for event-driven applications with a configuration-driven UI and background processes that handle logging, validation, and mapping.
  • Flexible EDA support: Choose the solution that best fits an organization’s needs with full lifecycle support for popular EDA solutions like Kafka, Solace, Anypoint MQ, and Salesforce Platform Events.

Salesforce perspective: “AI is shaking up how we think about modern architectures, but keeping things connected remains at the forefront. Integration is still foundational to business success. By supporting a wider range of integrations like event brokers via AsyncAPI, we’re strengthening our commitment to providing a robust, agile platform for our customers to thrive in today’s complex digital landscape.” – Andrew Comstock, VP of Product, Integration

Customer perspective: “As one of Europe’s leading Do-it-Yourself (DIY) retailers, integrating modern AsyncAPI support into Anypoint Platform is a significant move for OBI Group Holding. Managing both request/response and asynchronous communication from a single, familiar platform simplifies the developer experience and increases our operational efficiency and resilience, which directly benefits our customers with real-time services.” – Maksim Kogan, Solution Architect at OBI Group Holding

Innovation in action: MuleSoft’s Anypoint Platform AsyncAPI capabilities enable a variety of powerful capabilities, including these use cases:

  • Streamlined customer support: Incorporating EDAs into core customer support systems unlocks faster response times and resolutions with AI agents. For example, accessing real-time data, a financial services AI agent could detect suspicious activity on a customer’s account and instantly alert the customer to take immediate action while guiding the customer through the fraud validation process. This immediate response represents a leap forward for AI agents, moving beyond static data processing to delivering responsive, high-value interactions.
  • Proactive incident resolution: By enabling real-time data connection through EDA, AI agents can take immediate, automated actions to reduce risks or prevent service interruptions. For example, in a case with a potential server overload, an AI agent could trigger load balancing or start backup servers without requiring human intervention.
  • Enhanced inventory management: Integrating real-time inventory data with AI agents can improve their ability to track inventory levels and automatically reorder stock when thresholds are reached. It can also help agents account for delays, demand spikes, or disruptions in real-time and place orders to adjust inventory levels accordingly.
