As the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) gets underway in Dubai, Salesforce is detailing its journey and plans in support of the planet.
Salesforce has been on a sustainability journey for over a decade, and has long been committed to setting ambitious climate targets and supporting initiatives to increase meaningful climate action.
“At COP28 and beyond, Salesforce is proud to stand alongside our partners in our unified effort to save our planet, protect vulnerable communities through climate justice initiatives, and create a more sustainable world for all,” said Tim Christophersen, VP of Climate Action, Salesforce.

As part of Salesforce’s engagements at COP28, the company continues to advocate for the conference’s key objectives — adaptation, finance, renewable energy, and net zero — with learnings gleaned from its own sustainability journey:
- By supporting the conservation, restoration, and growth of healthy forest ecosystems globally by 2030 through 1t.org, Salesforce is helping address climate change while also protecting biodiversity and restoring natural ecosystems.
- Salesforce also supports other adaptation measures to protect vulnerable communities. As part of the $100 million Climate Justice and Ecosystem Restoration fund, the company is advancing tree equity by greening urban areas, supporting the Mangrove Breakthrough, and protecting coastal ecosystems as “living” infrastructure so communities are more resilient to the impacts of storms and sea level rise.
- At Climate Week NYC, Salesforce, in partnership with Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), launched a Corporate Climate Finance Playbook to help companies unlock multiple forms of capital to accelerate climate action.
- As part of its own climate finance strategy to support organizations that work with local communities, Salesforce also announced $8.3 million in new climate justice and nature-based solutions grants.
- Salesforce’s Accelerator for Nature provides nonprofits with the flexible, risk-tolerant capital they need to expand important climate-related work. Today, less than 2% of philanthropic funding goes toward climate action, often with restrictive funding that can hinder nonprofit organizations’ ability to innovate and take risks.
- In 2021, Salesforce reached a major milestone by sourcing 100% renewable energy worldwide. The company reached this goal by procuring renewable energy or claims to renewable energy equivalent to the electricity used globally on an annual basis.
- This year, Salesforce signed an agreement to purchase 280,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy certificates over the next eight years. These will come from small, distributed energy projects that deliver access and advance an inclusive transition to clean energy in regions highly dependent on fossil fuels.
- Salesforce also supports ZEROGrid, a critical new effort to accelerate the transition to a reliable and affordable zero-emissions electric grid.
- Salesforce’s Climate Action Plan and its Nature Positive Strategy demonstrate how the company is accelerating its commitment to the shared goal of a net zero future.
- Salesforce is helping scale emerging technologies to support net zero goals by committing to invest $100 million in carbon dioxide removal and championing the UpLink Sustainable Aviation Fuel Challenge.
- Salesforce built Net Zero Cloud to track and measure its carbon footprint, and today, companies including AT&T, Crowley Maritime, Cushman & Wakefield, Werner Enterprises, and others, use Net Zero Cloud to accelerate their sustainability journeys.
- This year, Salesforce also equipped Net Zero Cloud with Einstein AI, helping simplify ESG reporting for companies amid a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.
