Every major Salesforce release brings hundreds of new features across a wide variety of products and clouds. Winter ’20 is no exception, as you will discover while flipping through the Release Notes. Within this vast sea of goodness, there are always a few features that generate lots of buzz and excitement among Salesforce customers.
We hear about these highly-anticipated features in the Treasure Hunt (log into your account to check it out), a fun online event that takes place in the Release Readiness Trailblazers Community, kicking off about six weeks before the production release dates. Community members dig into their Pre-Release Orgs or Preview Sandboxes and share the nuggets of gold that they treasure the most.
Here’s a quick review of the top five most treasured features coming in Winter ’20:
1. The RECYCLE BIN is now in Lightning, and it’s even better
What it is: View (1), restore (2), and permanently delete (3) items in the Recycle Bin on a dedicated tab, with all the functionality of a regular list view.
Why people love it: Accidental deletions happen more often than most of us would like to admit, and having the ability to easily find and “undo the oops” without switching back to Classic is on the shortlist of the most highly anticipated “better in Lightning” features.
Learn more: Access the Recycle Bin by selecting it in the App Launcher under All Items. Add it to your navigation bar on the fly, or include the Recycle Bin tab in an App with the Lightning App Builder. Watch this video to see a demo.
2. The new Salesforce Mobile App is a game changer
What it is: New and improved Salesforce app features make it easier to access Salesforce on the go. Users can now get the familiar Lightning Experience they know on the desktop, optimized for the new Salesforce mobile app.
Why people love it: The new application is easy to configure and use, and admins now have more power than ever to customize the mobile experience and create one unified Salesforce experience for users.
Learn more: The Salesforce mobile app will be available for download from App Stores beginning the week of October 14, 2019. Read about it here or watch this demo video.
3. Printable View for Lists comes to Lightning
What it is: Ability to generate a condensed, minimalist, ink-saving view of your lists and related lists with Printable View.
Why people love it: Even if we live mostly in a digital world, there are still those times when you just need that hard copy. The Printable view gives you only the parts you need from the screen.
Learn more: To use this feature, simply select the Printable View button at the top of the list.
4. Bye-bye Power of One fields. Hello Count Unique Values (Beta)
What it is: With a single click, you can now easily see how many distinct values your report returns with a unique count. For example, opportunity reports often list multiple opportunities with the same account. Add a unique count to the Account Name column to see how many individual account values appear in the report.
Why people love it: Admins everywhere have struggled with this “counting conundrum” since the dawn of Salesforce, and the best way to accomplish this was to add the legendary “Power of One” custom formula field on every object you want to count. With this feature now built into the report options, you can reserve your custom fields for other things.
Learn more: First, enable this feature Reports and Dashboards Settings by selecting “Enable Unique Row Count Aggregate in Reports (Lightning Experience Only).” To add a unique count of values for a field, in the column, click | Show Unique Count.
5. Start a Flow on a Schedule
Winter ‘20 is a HUGE release for Lightning Flows. We’ll give you one example of what has the “Flownatics” jumping for joy.
What it is: Now you can schedule an autolaunched flow to start on a particular date and time and set the frequency to once daily, or weekly. Scheduled flows can run on a set of records you specify. For example, send a weekly alert to the owners of Opportunities in the Prospecting stage that haven’t been updated in the last seven days.
Why people love it: Previously, the only way to schedule a flow was to use scheduled Apex to call the flow. Scheduled Flows lets Admins schedule flows to run with the same ease as setting up a meeting.
Learn more: To start a Scheduled Flow for a set of records, select the filter conditions in the Start element. When the flow begins, a flow interview runs for each record that matches your filter—no looping required.
Now, grab your metal detectors to find the treasures you love in Winter ‘20!
