Your Guide to Sustainability at Dreamforce

We’re bringing the full power of Salesforce to accelerate the world's journey to net zero, and we hope you join us. [Aleona Pollauf | Saleforce]

Here’s how we’re bringing sustainability to life at Dreamforce — and how you can get involved.

We’re setting out to make this our most sustainable Dreamforce ever. Whether you’ll be attending virtually or onsite in San Francisco, here’s how sustainability is coming to life at Dreamforce — and how you can get involved.

This blog includes:

Sustainability sessions at Dreamforce

Favorite our Net Zero Cloud and sustainability sessions now so you don’t miss the star-studded lineup – including Jane Goodall, Matthew McConaughey, Edward Norton, and more. Many of these sessions will be available on-demand on Salesforce+, so if you aren’t able to attend in person, you can still catch the Dreamforce magic from home.

ESG readiness starts here

Built on the #1 AI CRM, Net Zero Cloud connects ESG data with every corner of your business — including your suppliers, partners, and value chain — and automates reporting with Einstein.

Suzanne DiBianca, EVP and Chief Impact Officer at Salesforce, explains how Salesforce integrated sustainability into the business and has used Net Zero Cloud to help others in their journey.

Onsite sustainability at Dreamforce

Attending Dreamforce in person this year? Here are a few steps you can take to reduce your footprint onsite.

  • Offset your travel. We are giving all attendees the chance to offset their travel-related emissions to Dreamforce! To opt-in, visit Net Zero Cloud in the Industries zone at the Campground or at the Dreamforce Gives area on Howard Street in front of the Moscone North entrance. We’ll handle the offsets so you can enjoy Dreamforce with a lighter footprint.
  • Compost, don’t waste. All of our meal packaging is 100% compostable. We have staff posted in lunch areas to help you sort your waste correctly.
  • Recycle your badge. Salesforce is offering badge and lanyard recycling. Once the event is over, leave your badge and lanyard in the specially designated badge/lanyard recycling bins (located at Howard Street, Moscone West, Moscone South, the Intercontinental, or the Marriott Marquis), and we’ll make sure they get recycled.
  • Spare the air. We encourage all attendees to walk, take public transport, or order an EV/hybrid rideshare to go to and from Dreamforce at Moscone Center and Dreamfest at the Giants Ballpark.
  • Bike bliss. Bike valet makes it easy and worry-free to bike to Dreamforce. Just leave your bike at the free bike valet located behind Moscone South (entrance off 3rd Street between Howard and Folsom streets).

Behind-the-scenes sustainability at Dreamforce

Don’t worry — you’re not in this alone! Here’s a peek at some of the behind-the-scenes work we’re doing to make this our most sustainable Dreamforce yet.

  • Making sustainable stick. For the first time, many of the Salesforce stickers you love to collect at Dreamforce are now recyclable. While we hope they adorn your laptops and other surfaces for years to come, when it’s time to dispose of them, they can now be recycled. Many of our new stickers will now contain recyclable backings, too.
  • Algae as ink. You read that right, we are using algae as ink on select staff shirts at Dreamforce. Algae Ink™ is a bio-based and renewable ink that is made when mixing carbon-negative pigment Algae Black™ into a water-based or vegetable-based carrier. A single kilogram of Algae Black™ can remove approximately 4 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

You can find designated compost, trash, and recycling bins across the Dreamforce campus.
  • Digital over print. We’ve eliminated almost all printed materials except those provided in interactive sessions such as hands-on-trainings, workshops, and roundtables. We’re replacing printed paper with digital assets, making it easier for you to save and share helpful information while reducing our environmental impact.
  • Where’s the beef (and pork)? Dreamforce is saving over 10 million gallons of water by eliminating beef and pork from our food and beverage offerings.
  • We nurture nature. All of the live trees and shrubs at Salesforce events are reused and continue to sequester carbon.
  • Donation nation. We avoid landfills and support nonprofits through a robust donation program. This year, we’re excited to partner with LiquiDonate, a sustainable social impact solution for retailers, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations. LiquiDonate’s matching algorithm makes it easy to place surplus items with local nonprofits, keeping waste out of landfills and doing good in the process. Additionally, many of our custom built structures will be reused at future Salesforce events.

Take sustainability beyond Dreamforce

Feeling inspired? Us, too! Sustainability is a core value at Salesforce, and we believe that values create value. When organizations let their core values drive their decisions and processes, they show customers and the larger community that they mean what they say.
