As climate disasters surge, Salesforce is working to reduce the impact of future disasters while responding to urgent needs now. Here’s how.
Over the last few months, we’ve all seen the impacts of climate change – from the devastating fires in Hawai’i, to the flooding and tropical storms in the American Northeast, India, and South Asia, to extreme heat felt around the globe.
Historically at Salesforce, we planned our response to climate disasters around peak seasons when severe disasters were more likely. But what’s become increasingly clear as climate change continues to accelerate is that a reactive, crisis-specific approach isn’t going to cut it.

Reimagining disaster philanthropy
We need to take bolder and more proactive action. Leveraging the full power of Salesforce, we reimagined our disaster philanthropic approach to help mitigate future climate disasters, prepare relief organizations before disaster strikes, and mobilize our employees to respond with their personal donations. Here’s how that looks in action:
- Mitigate: We take a comprehensive approach to reducing our own emissions through our sustainability efforts and products, and fund climate justice and ecosystem restoration nonprofits to mitigate the impact on underrepresented communities.
- Prepare: With less than 2% of disaster funding going to preparedness and resilience, we proactively support global relief nonprofits – like American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, CARE, Save the Children – before disasters happen to pre-position supplies, prepare response teams, and ultimately jumpstart relief efforts.
- Respond: Immediately following a disaster, we empower employees with self-serve tools to donate to humanitarian nonprofits and request a corporate match. In 2023 alone, employees have raised more than $1.5 million in employee donations and corporate matching to support disaster relief efforts.
Meeting the moment
The stark reality is that disasters are no longer confined to just a season. Climate change has made it our year-round normal, requiring proactive action from all of us.
Together, we can help mitigate, prepare, and respond to future climate disasters.
