As AI reshapes how the world works, companies face a critical question: how to build it responsibly.
AI gets a lot of things right, but it is still an evolving technology and not without some risks. And as businesses race to bring this technology to market, it’s critical that they do so inclusively and intentionally.
As businesses race to bring this technology to market, it’s critical that they do so inclusively and intentionally.
Salesforce is publishing a new AI Acceptable Use Policy (AI AUP) to align with industry standards and our partners, and to protect our customers. These policy updates allow customers to use Salesforce products with confidence, knowing they and their end users are receiving a truly ethical AI experience from product development to deployment.
A commitment to ethical and humane use of technology
Generative AI (GAI) is redefining products, strategies, and innovations across the tech industry and beyond. And at Salesforce, where we’ve been exploring and deploying artificial intelligence since 2014, we recognize that new technology such as this requires thoughtful implementation. That’s why, early in the GAI wave, we published guidelines to guide our customers through this emerging space.
Now, as we celebrate new partnerships and products that supercharge human capabilities, we’re also working to make sure that our GAI offerings are trusted, responsible, and ready for the challenges ahead. This includes using trusted data to deliver better AI outputs — a common concern among business leaders.
It’s not enough to deliver the technological capabilities of generative AI, we must prioritize responsible innovation to help guide how this transformative technology can and should be used. Salesforce’s AI AUP will be central to our business strategy moving forward, which is why we took time to consult with our Ethical Use Advisory Council subcommittee, partners, industry leaders, and developers prior to its release. In doing so, we aim to empower responsible innovation and protect the people who trust our products as they are developed.

The AI AUP allows Salesforce to uphold the protections we promise customers, like ensuring that our products aren’t causing avoidable harm. It also aligns us with third-party expectations when we work with partners like OpenAI, Anthropic, and more, opening up opportunities to collaborate in the market.
Of course, this is just a starting point. We need everyone’s help to ensure our innovations in the area of trust match our innovations in AI. As the landscape of AI continues to widen, and our technology advances, so too will our AI AUP.
We are excited to move forward together into this AI revolution, and know the AI AUP will be an important part of doing so with trust at the center.
